London Day 3
May 15
Got up and went out to kew, a Lovely little place. It us About 30 minutes by tube from kings cross, and will cost abou 14lbs but is well worth it. This is my favorite place so far. It is huge but I advise just letting your feet wonder and exploring the grounds. The waterlilly house is gorgeous. I grabbed a coffee and croissant before walking the the rest of the grounds. It is incredibly peaceful even with lots of school kids running about. There are various benches all over and my favorite part of the afternoon was reading Oswald chambers and praying in a secluded little area. You will see adorable elderly couples as well walking the pathways. As I was standing in one of the green houses an elderly woman commented about the largest flower in the world. " it looks like a fallic symbol!". Just as I got up from praying it began to rain so I ducked into one of the little art galleries in the gardens. It was truly beautiful absolutely packed with paintings of flowers and gardens Amidst the vast greenery, waterfalls, flower beds and winding pathways; one will find a perfect place of tranquility away from the city. If you have spent one or two days in London city area I highly recommend getting out to the gardens. It is not nearly as touristy but worth the trip and you will get to see a more authentic side of london. On the subway now and district line is closed until further notice, apparently a grenade was found or something, always a good way to add in some excitement to your day. Later in the day I visited the Tait modern art museum. It was interesting but unless you absolutely love modern art, which I don't, you will likely find it disappointing. You will see works like an empty frame with a light bulb hanging inside and clay shaped into what looks like a pile of poo. There is a Picasso which is cool simply because of the artist's fame. Also the museum was featuring an artist by the name of Damien Hirst. The one free work to see by him was a metal cast of a skull, entirely embedded with diamonds; over 8,000 not including the huge one in the center of its forehead. That was impressive! And beautiful. After the Tait museum I eventually found a little Italian place to eat. The one other person eating was a girl from Texas who was also staying in a hostel. She mentioned that she was thinking of going on a pub crawl through Cambdon, so we ended up doing that later that evening. It was lots of fun, but would probably be better on the weekend. Also, as a side note if you are to eat in a small Italian restaurant, apparently the expected way to end the meal is with a shot of liquor on the house and if you are one of two customers you just might get personally serenaded by your waiter :)
